Frozen Whitebait as, err, bait Afternoon all, A local food emporium has recently started stocking frozen whitebait. Would this be any good as a bait and what species is it likely to attract? I am slightly concerned they would'nt survive a good chuck though (without bait elastic - which might take away from the appeal). Also they are pretty cheap at £3.25 for a 500g bag. Will be interesting to hear your thoughts. __________________ 2012: None Lifetime: Codling, Grey Gurnard, Mackerel, Pollock, Pouting, Wrasse, Scad.

Re: Frozen Whitebait as, err, bait they will work but as you say they will have to be bound on with bait elastic - this doesn't detract from their appeal tho mate.. The boys have been getting success using sprats fo rbait down in Kent with a million dabs eager to scoff them ! Only problem with buying them from 'foodie' places is that often they have been washed and cleaned ( even though they remain whole ) - same for prepared squid etc.. Tho like everything else mate, it's always worth a try and the normal fish eaters like dogs, mackerel, garfish and gurnards might take a liking to one if put under their nose __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting

Re: Frozen Whitebait as, err, bait They are pungent little fellas which got me thinking if they would be any good. Ikea also do a dirty great big 1kg bag of frozen shell-on prawns for a fiver which I might try as well. Cant be any worse than the lack of success I'm having with squid and lug cocktails. __________________ 2012: None Lifetime: Codling, Grey Gurnard, Mackerel, Pollock, Pouting, Wrasse, Scad.
