Thinking of fishing Aust Thinking of fishing Aust on the BC this weekend given the huge tide scheduled for Sun morning. Can anyone give any tips and tricks for access, parking, etc. There appears to be a road that runs parallel to the sea which look like it might lead to some marks. Thanks in advance. __________________ 2012: None Lifetime: Codling, Grey Gurnard, Mackerel, Pollock, Pouting, Wrasse, Scad.

damn you gone one hellluva mudbath too ! Exit the M48 at Junction 1. Take the A403 (Severn Beach) and after approx 1/4 of a mile turn right. This minor road takes you towards the sea before bending to the left and running parallel to the shore. The easiest place to park is just as the road turns back in-land. Access to the foreshore is through the gate and then walk across the fields to the sea. Fishing is anywhere between the bridges but be prepared to get a bit muddy! Tides:Springs offer the best fishing but very large tides are best avoided as they push too far up the grass. Best times are 1 1/2 hours either side of high water. Species:Codling, flounder, sole, eels, whiting, conger, mullet and occassional bass. __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |

Re: Thinking of fishing Aust Thanks Scottish, that's helpful. Got bullied by the missus to do some work on the house so didnt get to Aust in the end. I've got a pass for this weekend so may try Aust or further down the channel on the Welsh side. __________________ 2012: None Lifetime: Codling, Grey Gurnard, Mackerel, Pollock, Pouting, Wrasse, Scad.

Re: Thinking of fishing Aust Just looking on Google maps there appears to be some sort of jetty a bit further up the channel which looks like it's carrying a pylon. Anyone one know if that's accessible? __________________ 2012: None Lifetime: Codling, Grey Gurnard, Mackerel, Pollock, Pouting, Wrasse, Scad.

Re: Thinking of fishing Aust The jetty is the rest of the Old Passage hence the name of the mark. It is basically what is left of the old wooden jetty that used to be the ferry drop off point. Was the same spot which has been used for hundreds if not thousands of years to cross the channel to Wales. The romans used it for example. Went out of business after the bridges were built. I always go further to the left where you will come to a mini estuary. Good fishing here. If you get there really early you can see how deep it is. Mate, if you slip in there you are in deep shit, literally!! If you fish the deep channels you should hook something. One of my fav spots to fish. Not recommended on a huge tide as I found out. Up to your ass in water. Give us a shout next time you plan to go , may join you if that's okay with you.!!
