bait digging! Hi guys, I think I'm going to try my luck at digging my own bait at some point this week and just wondered if anyone could tell me how to go about keeping the worms whilst digging and the best way to keep them when you get home.. I usually just keep them in a bait tub with newspaper underneath them and change it daily. Cheers sam

Re: bait digging! keep both rag and lug in seperate buckets with nothing in them . in hot weather i do add a bit of fresh sea water every ten minutes or so tho .. at home i like to pat dry lug on blue roll then store on tissue paper or in newspaper if they aint as sloppy.. rag are best kept in a mil or two of sea water in the fridge , or as you do , in newspaper in the bottom of the fridge away from the freezer box ... __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting

Re: bait digging! Hi sam, I will tell you how i keep my worms during/after digging. I have been lucky enough not to lose too many like this so ya may find it helpful. If your planning to dig rag and lug take two buckets or someway of keeping them seperate. Also take a empty coke bottle. First thing i do when i get down the beach is to fill my bait buckets up to about half way with sea water. Then dig your worms keeping rag and lug seperate, also and this is important, keep any worms that are bleeding away from the good ones, i chuck them but you can keep them if you are using them that day( put them in a seperate tub). Any that are bleeding will kill off all the others very quickly. Once you have collected enough worms empty the water out of your buckets, clean out the crap in the bottom and refill with fresh, your worms should have purged out most of their sand by now. Also fill your empty bottle with sea water and head home. If you intend to use the worms in the next day or two then dry them off and wrap them in newspaper in 20`s, if you want them for later in the week get some flat trays (like cat litter ones or even roasting trays) and put about 50 in each tray, making sure you take out any bleeders, then pour in some water (just enough to cover them) and chuck them in the fridge. If your keeping them for days then check the worms daily, removing any bleeders and refreshing the water if its bloody. If you take care of them good then they will be good for well over a week, meaning you can do two or more digging trips to get a large amount if needed. Hope that makes sence and helps Joe __________________ Sea 2012- 5brd rockling, whiting, LS Dogfish,Bass,Eel,Flounder F/W 2012- Catfish(16.5lb), Carp,Tench LITTER IS JUST LAZINESS!!
