Lure and plug fishing on the B/C

This may be a really really stupid question but is it possible to have any success with a plug or a lure on the Bristol Channel?

My first thought was "no you idiot it's way to murky and the fish can only use scent alone" but then I thought about the motion of a lure or the rattling of a plug.

Just a thought.

No such think as a stupid question ........ What species were you thinking of targeting with lures ? and what part of the channel ?

Re: Lure and plug fishing on the B/C

I was thinking mostly of bass in the summer months around the Aust/Severn Beach area (possibly a little further West if petrol stay <= £1.50 a litre )

Have also heared there can be some mullet about in those areas.

Re: Lure and plug fishing on the B/C

I think your 'first thought' was the right answer mate
you might entice a mullet on a small mepps with 1/2 inch of rag on the hook tho

Look for any of dr. Mike Ladle's threads on google - hes a legend when it comes to lure and fly fishing on the south coast

Re: Lure and plug fishing on the B/C

Waters too coloured that far up for lure fishing ,add the strength of the tide and it a no goer . Having said that a good trick for the cod in the cloudy upper reaches ,is a "booby" bead attached to the trace ( basicly a steel bead in a plastic body that rattles ,but that`s is uptiding when the bait is fished on the bottom. The mullet are notorious shy ,lures would be more likely to scare them away ,than encourage them to take the bait ..
