geejayy 2010 year review

like everyone else the year started slowly with poor angling prospects and a duff car killing transport plans ,
then Hartley and later keith arrived in need of angling instruction,
the company was good even if it interupted my usual solitude,

the fishing didn't improve till the summer fish started to arrive with the usual mackerel, doggies and bits n pieces tugging the lines,
the first major success came in late may, from monks hill on a night where i fished alone targeting the hounds over all it was quiet but the pealer baits came good late in the session when i managed to beach a pb 12lb smoothy
i knew it was just hartley jinxing my success.

pb smashed.

after a good session at seatown/burton the may weed slowed things down till late june when the first of the rays made an appearence at hurst, an undulate again i seem to have been lucky with them this last few years.

22nd june hurst,

the summer progressed and hartly started to catch a better variety of fish between the blanks till it was time to concentrate on the forum smoothhound meet which was the usual cracking social event and a bonus this year as the cream of the forums sea anglers actually caught some hounds ,
as per usual, i failed to catch a hound.

by the end of august i was back into the rays & hartly had caught his 1st respectable bass,

milford august 20th, a day of extremes.

with another pb for me being a 4 3/4 lb spotted ray.

the september sole hunt turned up an unexpected mutant sole , when i reeled it onto the beach i thought at first it was upside down but it wern't ,
just a white one, almost all over.

southbourne

after that it was time to concentrate on the cod, but to no avail till the family holiday at the end of october where a targeted codling turned up at berry head after 3 attempts along with several mini species.

ive done nothing much in the way of fishing since
and with a week to go i think thats it for this year.

Loved that sole you had gord , that was one weird coloured fish also a nice size hound for you but the cream had to be your spotty ray , cracking specimen look forward to meeting up in 2011 have a good new year gord and all the best
