The Sea fishing Licence

In 2007 I wrote to a few East Coast Angling clubs as I was writing a newspaper article on the Sea licence for beach anglers. I did not get anything back!

Now my own reasons for Sea anglers to have a licence,

1. pay for baliffs to measure fish (No more "For the cat")

2. Real law abiding non litter leaving, Non poor tackle anglers and serious anglers will pay for a licence saving many accidents of crack offs on piers and beaches. These casual sea anglers will be discouraged.

3. a levy on sea baits (Cheaper worms)

4. Money to be used on conserving stocks and policing anglers as above?

. Now it's up to your for and against's .

So how many baliffs would you invisage employing to police the 11,000 + miles of coastline ? HOw many licenses would you expect to sell and at what price to fund the baliffs ( i`m sure you wouldnt expect anyone doing that type of job to work for less than 20K a year .

Would they also be responsible for picking up all the litter ?

Are you seriously suggesting casual anglers should be discouraged ? How do you think us "serious" anglers got started .you cant be a competant angler overnight

Cheaper worms ,you want diggers to work for less ??

i`m not being rude ,but are you nuts ?? or related to George Orwell...i`m sure we are still living in a free world at the moment .

Re: The Sea fishing Licence

My thought on a sea fishing lincence are
1) Does the sea get stocked the same as rivers?
2) Boat Anglers would suffer as would disabled (me) as you can't really expect all the coast line to be covered by baliffs,
I think it would be mainly piers and marinas that would be mainly policed.

Re: The Sea fishing Licence

If the licence was inforced mainly at easy venues like piers and marinas,it would soon decend into chaos,as everyone moves off to less easy accessable places to fish

The coast is too large an area to police effectivly

Re: The Sea fishing Licence

Do you real think that It's the shore fishermen that are over fishing the sea. When trawlers have nets 10 football pitches wide and take hundred of 1000s of tons of fish a week out of the sea. I bet in one week all the UK trawlers take more fish from the sea then all shore fishermen in the UK take home in a year.

Re: The Sea fishing Licence

I don't see the need, nice to have past time were we are not making government or land owners large amounts of cash for seating on there behinds and doing nothing for it,I feel that many other types of angling has turned into easy cash making machines,Keep it as it is been OK for many years....

MRG2000 point covers this, there are 11,000 miles of coast, that is a lot of baliffs. Have you worked out the cost of each licence to employ the required amount of baliffs? It would probably be cheaper to buy a boat than what this shore licence would end up costing!

These baliff jobs would be public sector too, have you not seen the amount of cuts that are being made in the public sector in the spending review?

2. Real law abiding non litter leaving, Non poor tackle anglers and serious anglers will pay for a licence saving many accidents of crack offs on piers and beaches. These casual sea anglers will be discouraged.

Casual or beginners just need to learn or be shown. There are idiots in all walks of life including angling and you'll never stop them doing what comes naturally, being idiots!

What about the amount of litter that washes up on beaches and is left by non-anglers. Will some poor 'casual' angler be fined for this?

3. a levy on sea baits (Cheaper worms)

What about those who dig their own worms, how does this benefit them?

Don't like the price of baits, get your own. Diggers have to earn a living too.

4. Money to be used on conserving stocks and policing anglers as above?

Do you really think the money from this would go into conserving stocks and if so how? Recreational sea anglers don't even scratch the surface of fish stocks.

. Now it's up to your for and against's .
