Funny how how little slips with words reveal so much about the writer. I cracked up reading a post on another forum when, describing making a bit of home-made gear, one of the tools he listed was "a codless drill".......it still makes me laugh and sums up what so many of us are going thru this codless season!!
lol Adrian, i've been on parade every week for the last 6 doing that 'codless drill'

I hear battery point is a top cod mark .. coincidence ?

Thumbs up Re: Dock Fishing......

PIX!!!!

Ulverston canal sea side!!!

We caught uck all ffs!!!!!!!!!!!

A local a while away from us was fishing with 2 rods and caught a small flatty!!! WOW!!!

We tried tinned Sardines and Mackerel but they were totally crap and wouldn't stay on the hook so we used Thai prawns that stayed on the hook when u put them on one!!!!!!!! FR a mate and Luke my neff, did little else but bitch away at how cold it was.....I have a bomber jacket and a woolly hat and I didnt have any weather problems!!!!

But next week we will b freshwater fishing at a water called Cav Doc and it is reputed to have loads of fishes!!!!!!!

I was rolling a smoke when my neff drew my attention to my rod.............

I dropped what I was doing and was hyper while grabbing my rod because I was gonna land my biggest fish ever........

I crapped my myself!!!!!

It put up a good fight for over a minute and I brought it to the surface to view that my record making catch was in fact a 22lb sea-weed fish!!!!

NOT HAPPY!!!!

Re: Dock Fishing......

well done on getting out

to be honest i was very close to stopping this thread the other day as I thought was a wind up with all the carp style baits for sea fishing etc, plus the language and personal abuse on 1 post was getting unsuitable for this family forum, , please can all bear that in mind from now on( forum rules re language etc are inn the FAQ tab in top bar.

on a serious note and as advise now looking at the pictures of where you are fishing , looks like its a shallow edge to esturay, with mud base.

mud = worm and crabs a plenty so next time find a tackle shop or go digging as worms or crab on a long trace would probably be a better bet there for flatties and other estuary fish

fish baits usually need deeper water

I better go out and buy Ardon himself a cement mixer then!!!

I actually prefer freshwater angling but I am still crap at it as I am at picking a positive sea fishing bait!!!!!

CAV DOCK
is planned for next Saturday morn with worm and or maggot float angling - Also maybe prawns on a pater noster 2 hook rig with a controller float too!!!!!!!!

A technical equip first for me!!!!

I'll let ya know if I am successful or not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also I am planning to fish a local estuary as it seems very popular going from it's regular attendance of anglers day and night!!!

Re: Dock Fishing......

The 6 of us who fish fresh and sea have one by one dropped out for Saturdays fresh water dock angling, that has very good reviews, so just 2 of us are left to fish the session!!!............

I will be using a 2 hook pater noster set up (and other methods) with a controller pike float and for bait I will be trying a selection of:

Maggots, mackerel, earth worms, corn, prawns, chicken tika and smelly cat food (Felix)!!!!!!

A week later it is pencilled in for us to fish the Barra sea dock again and also planned is a trip outta Barra to a shore sea fishing spot 13 miles away that seems to be very popular!!!

The law of averages says that we are sure to catch something eventually!!!!

But that might turn out to be ###### considering our recent run of bad luck!!!!!!!

Wonder If sea fish are partial to Malteasers or jelly babies?????

Hey ya may never guys - they could maybe be thee killer bait!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Dock Fishing......

You would do better usually fishing at high tide and moving along the pier until you find a spot where the fish are feeding or if you must fish at low tide do the same thing - KEEP MOVING. Remember fish actually DO SWIM to find their food and as tides come in they move inshore and vice versa especially if searching over worm beds etc.
Try a single ball rig to let the bait move around a bit rather than just chucking/chancing it in one spot with a grapple. Use a trace of about 1 metre and go for as light a line as possible unless there are rocks in the area. I.e. 6-10lb
Good luck
