Why the hell is a reducer called a reducer? ![]() ![]() I was talking to my mate at work the other night and was telling him about a rod i was looking to buy when he asked me what a reducer was? i explained its purpose and he looked at me, confused, asking why its called so. I was stumped and can`t give him a rational answer. ![]() Its been buggin me evr since lol Tight Lines all ![]() Joe __________________ Sea 2012- 5brd rockling, whiting, LS Dogfish,Bass,Eel,Flounder F/W 2012- Catfish(16.5lb), Carp,Tench LITTER IS JUST LAZINESS!! |

Re: Reducer!!! ??? a reducer is a extension to your rod .it is used when you have the reel low down the rod for casting so it reduces the ache in your arm lol

Re: Reducer!!! ??? Old butts used to be too thick (as in 1 1/4 inch aircraft grade aluminium). They ('reducers') reduced the diameter so that digitally challenged folks could get their thumb over the spool. Often confused with 'extenders' which were produced to make it easier to reel in with reel down. ![]()

Re: Reducer!!! ??? yes,... the 'reducer' that 'increases' length of your rod .. causes confusion all the time . can only be for butt diameter for people with hands like Jeremy Beadle ![]() I used to be digitally challenged but then i got a new freeview box ![]() __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting

Re: Reducer!!! ??? Cheers lads , i can now sleep easy knowing that piece of info lolDon`t worry Nick, i was one of them to!!!! So im right in thinking a reducer reduces the diameter at the rod butt, thus enabling small hand spanded people the option of using their reels in the low down position and grip the spool safe and sound Think I got it now ![]() ![]() Joe __________________ Sea 2012- 5brd rockling, whiting, LS Dogfish,Bass,Eel,Flounder F/W 2012- Catfish(16.5lb), Carp,Tench LITTER IS JUST LAZINESS!!

Re: Reducer!!! ??? 'Reducers' are more or less obselete now, because of lightweight blank materials ..... I have a 12' rod with max 19mm diameter which casts up to 10oz. 'Extenders' are 18" or so of butt material which slots into the butt of the rod for easier reeling in with reel low mounted. ![]()
