fixed spool locks up on retrieve!

bought a couple of spinning reels recently and both are bearing the same problem, go to initially use the damn things and both lock up, took one back to the dealer and he seemed to have cured it for about two sessions and the problem reoccurred.
bloody annoying when of course your just about to begin a session that looks ideal, however i asked what the problem was to the tackle dealer and he replied "well i stripped it and reassembled it and it works fine now?" He didn,t know!

Stripped the reel down today and went as far as gearing and couldnt believe the corrison inside the gearing mechanism, not that this was the problem for it locking up unexpectantly, it was as simple as taking the reel housing off and loosening the nut on top of the bottom section, which is stopped by getting tighter purely by some mickey mouse selftapper, once loosened off, the fixed reel worked perfectly, wondered if anybody else had encountered the same type of problem both reels cost approx just over £30 squid.

What make were they fella? The saying buy cheap buy twice springs to mind here. Im not knocking your budget in anyway, it seems that reels at the bottom end of the market cause alot of hastle, i've also been there, not with locking up as such but had bail arms snap at the roller, handles shap etc all by using in the correct manner!

Re: fixed spool locks up on retrieve!

One is a avocet Mitchell and the other is a whychwood bait runner, i have had two fixed spools that where fifteen quid a piece and had no trouble at all spinning with these reels, i must be getting an old miser as i don't think £30.00 is really that cheap for a basic fixed spool. advised by the tackle shop that they are fine in salt water, even though i always return home and wash them out.
The cast metal gearing inside once stripped even had corrison in them, but i know what your saying you can't buy cheap chinese reels and expect them to perform....at all!
