Colditz, Hayling Island?

Had a tip that the bass can be good at 'Colditz' on Hayling Island. Apparently so called because of square shape of flats.

Any ideas where this is??

Went to Selsey with OH (Russnofish) today and caught a very small black bream, but I know he would love to catch a bass and Hayling is much closer to us.

Thought I would try and upload a picture of the thunderstorm which was moving in as we left:

Re: Colditz, Hayling Island?

Go here, although some of the info I wrote is out of date.

ie much bigger population of 'smoothies' than then.
Hardly any plaice or flounders left.
Lack of big bass .... plenty of schoolies.

Go to Eastoke Main car park and the Colditz Block is about 600m to
the left of the car park .... look for Groynes 22 -23 'ish.

Thanks for the advice. Do you think it's worth a go or would I be better spending the time at another mark?

We had a cracking afternoon, sun shining, sea dead calm. It was a lovely waste of an afternoon if nothing else.

Shame OH only caught the one but we are quite inexperienced. Hope to do a bit more from now on and polish up techniques etc.

Re: Colditz, Hayling Island?

Just to give you some ideas ....

I live on the Front about 150m west of 'Colditz'.

I reckon I fish it about 80 - 90 times a year.
90% of that fishing would be after dark .... mostly June, July, August for smuts and bass.
End of Sept - Christmas for whiting and cod.

The few daytime sessions would be for plaice end of Feb - end of March and a few day sessions for mackerel.

I've had cod to 18-2-0 from Groyne 23 and a plaice of 4-4-0 from Groyne 28.
20 years ago we could catch 3 or 4 'double figure cod on a tide.

Unfortunately that situation has not arisen in recent times -

4-4-0 plaice weighed at Paige's Tackle.

3 cod for 36-12-0

18-2-0 cod was in more recent times (2003)

They'll come around again ; but probably I won't be 'ere!

Hi Gremlin,

Wow what beautiful fish - well done you!

I might give it a go but I'm only a novice so I don't expect too much - even a few mackerel would be nice LOL.

What did you catch them on? What bait do you find most successful? Sorry for all the questions but am enjoying learning more.

Thanks.

P.S. Lucky you living so near the sea.

Re: Colditz, Hayling Island?

I sorta gave a lesson for a bloke who came over from Scummerland today to get some of my traces and .....

golden rule has to be ...

Rag in the Summer, Lug in the winter.
Trouble is we don't know when one finishes and the other starts anymore.

Most of my codling (end of Sept - Dec) come to lug and squid cocktails -

My plaice usually come to rag and squid strip with borbles (?) and bangles ....
