Bait question

Hi Guys,

Anyone tried using sardines as bait? I picked up a bag of fresh ones for 36p in tesco, not the freshest I admit LOL. But I was just wondering if you could use them whole or in fillets maybe bound with a bit of elastic?
I guess it's worth a try, especially at 36p!

try them whole mate..and take some ketchup just incase they arent working

Ha ha,

Did think of the tinned type but fish can't open them!!!
Thanks for the advice on the braid, it's like telegraph wire you can feel everything, scary! think I missed a few 'bites' that just weren't there!

Good fun but you start to make bites up lol.. normally a fish 10 foot away swishing its tail and the line goes nuts !

I tried a bag of frozen pilchards from tesco as well as some raw king prawns on offer... cant remember catching much with either and reckon i should have just made a curry

Spratts in winter will winkle out the better whiting , i also remember a couple of years back getting a nice bass on them , another cheap bait

From experiences while piking I find sardines do come off the hook really easy, I tend to freeze mine to keep em stiff on the hook longer, note that this will reduce attractiveness tho
