| south devon - Torbay, paignton brixham area help!!!! ok here goes, completely new here and you may as well say new to fishing I've been having a rummage through the old topics but not really finding what im looking for. Its that time, time to take my kids fishing, just as I did when I was little. I live down in South west Dorset so am quite aware of the fishing spots round here and my very favourite as a kid was West Bex/Bexington beach, pretty quiet so not to annoy proper fishermen/ladies suitable for them to play as they are still a bit young if they get bored and somewhere you can light a disposable barbecue at the end of the day and cook anything you have caught if not then its burgers for dinner!!!! So im after something like that but in south devon, we are staying in Dawlish - EX7 0LZ so we are pretty close to torbay, paignton, brixham places like that. Anyone know of anywhere that sounds similar to West Bex beach? Not too worried about catching great big catches a little tiddler to throw back in would be nice for them but just going fishing would be enough for them, obviously a catch even better but not essential. They are going to be going a few times in the next couple of weeks before we leave home around this area so they can get used to it. Please help this mummy in need Thank you |

| Re: south devon - Torbay, paignton brixham area help!!!! Hi .. It really depends upon how little your kids are that will determine where you can fish, and will they need constant supervision for safety reason's. If they are really young i would suggest heading for Torquay inner harbour where a lot of youngsters congregate on the slipway and steps dotted around there, fishing with handlines for crabs and small fish. There is a tackle shop on the other side of the harbour named "Quay Stores" they will have all the gear for crabbing and bait. If your kids are older and you and can manage to through a line 50/ 60 yards head for Hopes Nose, Berry head, Dawlish Warren (on the doorstep), use peeler crab, ragworm, lug fo bait if you can get those. Best bet would be to contact Tackle shops in the area for the best advice for marks to fish. All the best enjoy the holiday. ;-) |
