| there used to be this picture on this american site of really weird and wonderful injuries that shows things that arent supposed to be funny but are, like the american who was sawing a branch of and he strapped himself to the tree via his trousers and he fell out and his trousers caught his nob and he ripped it clean off. anyway... it had a picture of a cyclist who had been hit by a flying lead and it had punched a perfect whole straight through his crash helmet and it buried itself deep in the guys skull. just a painfull reminder of what can happen if you are not careful! |

| Re: novice caster needing advice All I will say, it has already been said, make sure that your rod/reel/line is in top condition. The bearings etc have been properly oild etc. Start off with a basic overhead thump, do not try to hard because if you do then you are asking for trouble. One of the things that I have learned is to have some one who more experienced than you at casting to stand back and watch you. Be prepared for some critisicm (sp??), that is what happened to me and I now use an areielised off the ground cast. Mind you, I do use either a Century carbon metal or the new carbon metal express with the reel mounted low at about 6" from the butt. Above all relax, do not try to show off, make sure your knots are upto the job. __________________ Windows-User: Doesn't know why it doesn't work. DOS-User: Knows why it doesn't work. | There is no substitute for a casting instructor, you will learn more in a couple of hours with a GOOD casting instructor than you will in hours and hours of watching videos!!!! and more importantly safely!!!! To get hold of a casting instructor near to you try these two e-mail addresses first one is from sea angler magazine second one is through the UKSF Mary-Ann.Payne@emap.com or AnneHowlett@tiscali.co.uk If anybody wants some tuition in or around the Essex area i would be more than pleased to teach anybody Cheers, Terry |
