Angry it would be polite to see some reports

hope i dont offend anyone with this thread, but its something thats wrankled me over the last few months( and actually know several others have same problem) especially as the fishings been tough and we are all searching for that elusive fish

i'll put this as my perspective but you will know what i mean

yes i fish alot ( i am lucky as i live by the coast and have a very understanding mrs)
And I try to help anyone if i can

but recently i have had loads of PM's ( escpecially after getting that ray , and some on a forum where i never posted the report) asking for advise, on where to fish, baits etc, not just charmouth but local beaches all arround here

also replying to , info required type open forum threads " info on .... beach needed etc"

as they are going there next day/weekend/ holiday etc

and so i and others try to explain baits . tactics rigs etc ( all of which are normally in our posts as if already on forum thers nowt to hide)

But heres the bit thats getting me, 99% will never let us or the forum know how they got on , even a pm back saying how it went

please guys its just courtesy and helps everyone , reports lead to better fishing, blank reports can save people a wasted trip
and fuel bait etc

yes i'll still give info as i'm up for helping anyone if i can but please
writeing a report usually takes no longer than the original pm / ask for help

we are a sociable lot here, and general fishing knowledge passed on helps everyone

sorry for the rant

dave

Re: it would be polite to see some reports

Happened here many times as well Dave and it's frustrating as you want to help people enjoy their fishing as much a you do, but sometimes you start to think "s*d it, why bother"? I think it's just the nature of the internet. People want something for nothing, the something in this case being info. It's all too easy to take without putting back.

Quite often it goes on a little bit closer to home as well.....

Re: it would be polite to see some reports

Well Dave i guess i see this from a slightly different perspective.( probably through my own softness or being gullible ) ..I am more than willing - funilly enough like everyone else who has commented before me to give advice on fishing tackle, techniques etc and only ever hope for a small thankyou in return ...
We talked about this breifly on the beach on Saturday and i think the problems are two fold..
Firstly people don't like reporting on bad trips - there are a handfull on here who will ( all plain to see ) .."Heres my report ..Caught nothing" doesnt help greatly but a brief few lines on the location ,weather ,bait etc will help just as much as a report of 20 good fish ..
Perhaps the rep button should be used more often and for those willing to actually take the time to take photos and post reports on here and only those with a certain rep being allowed to see catch reports
I dont know but look on any day and there are 20 online but 40 people viewing the catch reports ..people who contribute bugger all to the forum but probably post the information back elsewhere on the net - ( that hacks me off )
Secondly as hinted at above... the forum is open to all to view regardless of being a member or not - i expect you admin have a genuine reason for this but i for one think it means we will be trolled by the masses and contributed to by the few....
Call me old fashioned or even daft but i would like to think i contribute to this forum but find myself either answering the same old questions daily or looking to get timewasters booted for filling this place with nonsense..
Thread counts, rep points and friends lists speak a thousand words on here and i can name but 20 folk who i regard as "contributors" to this forum..
How you change this i don't know..perhaps now is the time to get it out and make efforts to change it

To ALL of the newbies who have joined recently ( those who can be bothered to read this ) , I , from now on will proactivley seek to reply and help more ,those of you who have the courtesy to add a little back yourselves and will add rep points to the deserving and will push for the catch reports to be closed to non members/non posters....if you can find the time to sit and ask about locations..what bait is working and generally rape information from real forum members , surely you can afford us the decency of 5 minutes reporting ( forget how much you know - its not that important , but effort is )
Dave , you have started me off on a raving tirade now that i wasn't expecting this afternoon so apologies to all lol
( atleast those who bother to read this thread )
Steve

(not a super poster global modder admin angler top reporter fish recorder )
though i try

Re: it would be polite to see some reports

Great call Dave.
A little reply saying thanks, the advice was spot on and we filled our boots with.... or thanks for the advice but if you're planning going there, forget it - the fish have gone.

Shimples!

I know I don't post as much as I used to - but I'm sure you all understand the reasons why....

All the best everyone and hope to see a lot more catch reports going up soon.

NOTE TO DAVE (PINGU) - get next months issue mate, you won't be disappointed
