| Lubricating Oil for multiplier Reels? Having just bought a multiplier reel it came with Oil to clean the reel after every use, does any one else use any thing other than the stuff it comes with, or is there any advice on other oils to use like baby oil or any thing else other than the oil provided? Any help welcome. Vorny :) __________________ 1 2 3 4 5 once I caught a fish alive, 6 7 8 9 10 then I let him go again.... | Re: Lubricating Oil for multiplier Reels? the oil in the tube is for keeping things like the handle turning freely but is pants for the bearings.. To clean the bearings and re oil - increase speed / smoothness - remove the bearings from the end plate and opposite spool side ( if it has one ) using circlip pliers. place in a small CLEAN container with unleaded petrol in it and leave to soak for 30 mins or so.. Place the bearings on some kitchen roll or clean rag and allow to dry / fuel to evaporate.. place the bearing on a tea spoon and pour over some T.G's rocket fuel ( about 4 quid from weymouth angling and available in 3 colour coded bottles depending on how confident a caster you are - basically the red kit is micro thin oil and better for tourney casting) . Heat the underside of the spoon with a lighter ( this thins the oil and helps it penetrate the bearing better ) you will notice most of the oil soak into the bearing - pick it up with the pliers and place back in the reel. remember when you remove the spool to rinse it under cold water from the tap - line and all and leave to dry .. use a toothbrush to remove any sand or grit form the reel seat , the end plates and around the star drag if it has one .. its worth removing the handle - unscrewing the star drag and brushing off the spindle...then add a few drops of the oil from the tube and re assemble...MAKE SURE the brake blocks are correctly fitted before you replace the spool and you are ready to rock.. I do a full strip down when the reel sounds iffy or over runs start to become a pain and after long sessions on sandy beaches ie Southbourne Steve __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |

| Re: Lubricating Oil for multiplier Reels? Maybe you can help with the star drag, before casting I loosen it right up and then tighten before placing back in the rod stand is this the right way to use it or should I just leave it on one setting? __________________ 1 2 3 4 5 once I caught a fish alive, 6 7 8 9 10 then I let him go again....
