Help - new to uk fishing

Hi

I moved to England from south africa a few years ago, I was very into my fishing and still am, sea fishing, rivers/lakes....anyhting really.

I have been fishing in the uk a few times, mainly lakes and local river and have caught a few decent fish, bream/carp/a whole load of tench .

I'm moving to Brighton in a couple months and heard you can get bass there, I have no idea about sea fishing in the uk, I don't want to turn up with my huge daiwa sea reel and shark trace and start casting out off the pier looking like an idot .

Was wondering if you guys would be kind enough to advise on what equipment to invest in? Interested in going after bass etc but also smaller fun fish. Guessing for bass you'd need substantial equipment and would probably fish with a live bait or lure?
