| I recently read an old report on using Braid on a fixed spool reel. So I tried it............ I'm not going to use mono again for my float fishing. The pickup on the strike is unbelievable, instantanious, you can feel every move the fish makes, making the experience much more enjoyable. ENOUGH SAID!!!!! |

Having never used braid at all, im interested to know how the braid behaves in the water using it for float fishing and plugging. Does braid float on the surface for example? Cheers. | Re: Braid On Fixed Spool Hi Kiwi, I've only used it the once the other day and to be honest i didnt have any problems at all with it. I didnt notice the line sinking although the wind was really strong keeping the line with tention on it all the time. The only thing what I will say about it is that it does damage the top of the float where the line goes through when you strike, but saying that mono does the same.Whatever happened to the floats with the small metal section at the top to prevent this from happening? I've noticed over the last couple of seasons that this has been happening alot to the floats i'm buying, maybe i should mention this to the manufacturer/retailer. I did do the bath test a minute ago with the line and found that it does hold its surface water retention quite well, however it does sink if you break this. I think the brand i got is called fire line or spider wire, i cant remember to be honest i brought it some time ago. It was on a Abu 7000 used for Pollocking but I only used it the once cos my mate sold the boat.(the sod) Knot tieing was also very good, you will need a very sharp knife or scissors to nip off the end bits....none of this biting the bits off with your teeth cos it just dont work, it just flattens out. I know the price of the Braid is a bit dear but the benifits are truely worth it. Why not go halves with a mate to split the cost, its got to be worth it. What you dont try you'll never know. Regards Nigel. |

| Re: Braid On Fixed Spool Iv cast braid from a multiplier before, and as long as you have the braking set higher than normal its great! |

| Re: Braid On Fixed Spool Sea fishing from Brixham Break water, the Braid seamed to cast fine on the fixed spool. I think as long as you keep some tention on the line as you reel in there shouldn't be a problem when you cast back out.My braid is still new and still appears a bit stiff, but in time it will soften up. |
