It's weird you mention that. I have a client who does yacht charters etc in Turkey and when he come over here last he bought a telescopic rod. Within an hour the rod was discarded and he fished the whole night throwing the line out and pulling in the fish. He said that's what he usually did at home.

Re: Mediterranean fishing

It’s really refreshing to see no end of folks catching no end of fish of various sizes using only the very basic of equipment,

The message nearly always put out by various media is YOU NEED the latest high tensile, carbon granite composite, diamond cut, laser etched, Armani designed ₤500 rod, and you have got to cast at least 150 yards to catch anything, it’s so not the case, you can catch huge fish regularly without a rod.

I recon the back to basics approach can do us all some good at times, help us remember the reason we go fishing is “to go fishing” not to buy the most expensive tackle we can afford, (although catalogue surfing can be great fun on a cold wet winters night).

There’s nowt better than pulling out more and bigger fish than the bloke next to you, can ya imagine how pissed he’d be if you weren’t even using a rod, ouch!!!!!

Cheers Mark.

Re: Mediterranean fishing

In some parts of Greece they have snow near on 8 months of the year and some good ski resorts,

But i am in Athens which is pretty mild at winter, still gets cold though, not really windscreen scrapeing blighty cold but still cold though, and when we do have snow mate it's mental cause most Athenians have got no idea how to drive in the snow, complete chaos (Greek word).

The best thing living here though is even if it's cold its sunny near on everyday, i got sun burn last week fishing even though i got me coat on.
