| Re: Top 3 fish of the year My best three are: 11lb Starry smoothound 6lb Starry Smoothound 3lb Bass I also hooked a bigger fish that looked like a smoothound in the same session and I grabbed it by the tail, but it turned round and looked at me and it had little teeth, so I went all dribbly bottomed and let go so it shook its head smashed my tackle and sodded off. I haven't been fishing long. But unknown to me there was a bloke behind me on the shingle who was watching and said it was a Tope. He looked as if he had been fishing at least a hundred years so it must be true.     |

| Re: Top 3 fish of the year hello all, Its been a while since i last responded but for what its worth my top three fish of this/last year (2004) would be as follows. In first place would be the magnificent esox lucius (pike) topping the scales at 15lb 4oz caught from a small river only 8 foot wide. It took a lure at the end of November, although its only a smallish size for pike it was the context that i caught it under that makes it special. quick explaination nimue4 and i have a annual pike fishing comp, we have set up a leader board using Excel and the winner is decided at the end of the fishing year. From the start of the comp my pikeing skill wasn't honed to the fine edge that its at now, so nimue4 sped of into an early lead with 7 pike all about 2 pound. Then... on this eventful day i pulled 3 pike. First a 3 pounder, quickly the line went tight again and i had a 7 lb'er and thought that its going to swing my way and I started to mount the come back. Two hours passed with nothing but trudging through cow sh*t and getting rained on. Then right at the end of the adventure (in front of an audience, a lady and her daughter walking) the line pulled tight again, my rod bent right over and i knew that this was one of size. quick struggle (like landing a large branch that i've snagged) and the monsters head broke the surface. the rest is history as they say and i am now the new leader in our comp. As for the other fish there's a 12lb common carp off the top with peice of bread and a lovely peice of haddock witch came with a large portion of chips and mushy pea's. | Re: Top 3 fish of the year 1. Flounder - 2lb. 11oz. 2. Cod - 12lb. 15oz. (I like to call this one a 13 pounder!) 3. Dab - 1lb. 9oz. (P.B. this one) they were my top 3 of 2004 - but had numerous cod between 5 - 9lb. One other I would like to mention - a 4lb. lobster outa the rocks, great fight, but tasted even better !!! |
