Re: Bait collecting I collect all mine, too tight to buy it. In fact I sell it to the tackle shops, with the correct licensing and tax paid. I net the sandeel in a sein and collect the prawn in traps, some are frozen down and the remainder kept alive in tanks in the garden. Razor and Peeler from the beach (without disturbing any rocks) and occasionally pump or dig worm for my own use, too much like hard work and too much disturbance to do it commercially. If you want the method no probs, however location by PM only for obvious reasons.

Re: Bait collecting Hi Chris, Thanks mate, i am in Greece so its a bit far to travel to collect bait over there. I am only really interested in the method and tools you use to catch Mainly Prawns and Shimps, cause im having major problems finding good sources. Cheers Mark.

Re: Bait collecting I think a lot of people use dropnets with a bit of macky in to catch prawns. I think Steve Devon does it... __________________ Dan `·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸ Big or small, look after them all! ¸.·´¯`·.¸ ><((((º>

Re: Bait collecting For prawns I use a trap bit hard to describe but here goes. It is a cylinder of fine hard plastic mesh about 18 inch diameter and 2 foot 6 long. The ends are closed with an inward facing cone of the same mesh with a small opening at the apex of the cone to let them in, about 1 inch diameter. There is a small door in the side for access to bait it and to empty the catch. It is weighted and has a length of buoyed rope to mark it and for recovery. I set it one day and haul the next in fairly shallow water amongst rocks and kelp. Picture here of a similar commercial model: http://www.daba.eclipse.co.uk/prawn_trap.htm Hope you can understand this and that it helps you a bit.

Re: Bait collecting Thanks The trap seems pretty easy tp replicate, I guess the hardest bit is going to be finding where to put the trap as we don't get much seaweed over here, Also as i have no boat leaving the trap for 24 hours might be a problem as it might not be there the next day. Cheers Mark.
