Another Stupid Question!

Hi all dont laugh but this is a serious question! I am right handed and when i use a fixed spool reel the handle is on the left. I am contemplating buying a multiplier which we all know sits on the top of the rod rather than underneath it. So do i need a multiplier that is a left hand wind or right? Also what are the benefits of a multiplier against a fixed spool? I have a penn surfmaster 850 at the moment. My mate has just bought a multiplier and keeps getting birds nests. Also should i get one with a level wind or not?

Re: Another Stupid Question!

p'rhaps i'm just cackhanded but it feels perfectly natural, (to me anyway )
to use a fixed spool with left hand wind and a right hand wind multi. don't know why, maybe because with the multi i'm holding the rod left handed beside the reel while useing that hand to guide the line across the spool.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmn.....with fixed spools its exactly opposite but obviously no need to guide the line.

so as i think about it i'm totally flummoxed as to why,
but for me i know left handed multi's & right handed coffee grinders just feel awkward

Re: Another Stupid Question!

You can get left handed multipliers. Nowhere near as big a range, but they are out there. Example below

Re: Another Stupid Question!

Do any of you use a fixed spool and a multiplier? If so what side are the handles on them both?

Re: Another Stupid Question!

For me

Boat Rods= Right Handed multipliers
Beach Rod= Left handed FS (for now. Have to upgrade my beach kit)
Baitcaster (trigger type) = Left handed small multiplier
Fly Rods= Left handed reels
