Re: larnaca cyprus fishing

Oh dont start me ! spent 3 years there while in army and fished a lot ! depends where you fish from, from beach you can fish light for bass which have escaped from fish farms, trout pellets on a size 12 hook, in rock pools and gullies go for Moray Eel - use calamari but on a trace and strong rod ! from boat, take the skippers advice !
Beach casting is best by night, again calamari is good !
Check out the freshwater dams ! massive carp, Freshwater Bass and specimen Perch and Roach.
Have fun - I am jealous !

Re: larnaca cyprus fishing

Hi,

I'm off to Cyprus on the 6th June (Next Sunday) for 10 days, planning on doing some fishing (need a nice relaxing break)
I've a car hired and plan on taking a selection of travel rods (coarse and beach), could you possibly advise some areas in southern cyprus (staying in pahpos, but of course will have the car) to fish from the beach on an evening.

And I would be grateful if you could point me in the right direction for arranging some Damn fishing.

Thanks in advance, getting excited now :)

Cheers

Martin

Re: larnaca cyprus fishing

Hi Martin,
In Paphos there are two dams, Aspro kremos and Mavro kolombus.
Aspro Kremos is near the Airport turning and will take you about 15 mins from Paphos. Its a big dam and I have fished down by the supports of the pier and caught nice Bass on spinner and live bait also carp on floating crust. There is also a nice area if you drive along the dam wall and turn left at the end I found it good for roach, carp and bass there. I heard tales of big catfish in there but not seen any evidence.
Mavro Kolombus is a much smaller dam and quite near paphos, just get a local map to find it. I've had big perch there.
Have a good holiday !
Cheers
Doug

Re: larnaca cyprus fishing

Hi Doug, Thanks for all the information, I cannot tell you how grateful I am.

Do you need any licenses for the two Damns mentioned as I have read that you need licenses for Damns?

Also, do you know of any good Deep Sea fishing trips, I'm trying to avoid the ones that are too 'touristy'

Thanks again, very much appreciated :)

Re: larnaca cyprus fishing

i lived in paphos for 2 years - yes you need a licence to fish the dams (mostly small catfish) if there is any water in them lol -as for sea fishing dont bother from the beaches unless you like catching sardine sized fish -if you go boat fishing pay about £60 and go on a tuna/shark trip, seems expensive but cheaper than drinking all day lol
