Trawlers

Hi all. I was just wondering about trawlers -more spesifically
what rules there are about stopping them doing what they seem to do best
-destroying the worlds fish stocks.
In my eyes, if you want fish, go
out and catch it. It's definately a lot funner than
going down to the supermarkt and
buying some. All the trawlers seem to do is
go backwards and forwards on the same stretch until there are no fish left at
all. What happened to sustainable
fishing? I understand these people need to
make a living but come on. Find another way!

Re: Trawlers

It would be ok if it was just our brittish trawlers fishing in our waters, and running on the quotas allowed. What was once brittish is now european so you get the spanish hoovers coming in and taking the lot. Also the russian factory shipsthat just sit outside international waters and buystraight off the deck dont help

Re: Trawlers

People tend to forget that it's not just the stock fish which trawlers catch, but the damage caused by chains on beamers means that the benthic sea-bed is destroyed.

Researchers in the N Sea tried to find a piece of un-trawled sea-bed control area. They gave up after 2 days sampling.

When greed goes too far ....

Shrimp fishery in The China Sea.

Sorry mate. I meant that in jest only I totally agree with you on the greed bit. Yes I admire our hard working fishermen and they do earn every penny. Its the buggers with their massive hoovers from other eu countries that I would like to have a shot at.
