Re: Hook sizes for Mackeral Feathers

I'll keep my eyes open for some, till then I'll have a go at making a few up, always more fun to catch on my own.

I have 3 pckts of those in my boat box, they are very good for mackerel and mustad are a great hook, i use mustad worm points for the shore as well as kamazan. But i just find the hyabusa gets the edge as they are like magnets for mackerel. Hokkies are good to. I think as drew will agree if they are there they will snap at anything shiny and flashy and small. Just looking at that pckt mate gets me in the mood to fish. Tight lines, Paul

Well done Paul, that must have been quite a thrill? Sometimes it takes me a week on Chesil to get half a dozen. I tend to use a spinning rod with a Toby.

Drew
Hi drew, the 12lb and 6lb ray + 20 odd dogs + a stack off pollock i caught with the mackerel gave me the thrill but yes i was excited as i knew i had a great chance of catching some fish and getting my bait for the shore and freezing them fresh as poss in newspaper, and all the shore fish i caught on them. Drew mate do you find some times on the boat even when you do have fresh the fish sometimes take the frozen and visa versa, i always bring frozen anyway just incase there are no mackerel about which sometimes can be the case early on. Frozen sandeel works for me alot. Ps cant wait to try some squid not washed though this time. Tight lines mate
