just fish farming, bank building, buck pileing, bridge building , machinery & building maintenence , tree clearence and 101 other things that need to be done when the seasons closed on a fishery. oh, and if i had a free hour or 2 i'd go coarse fishing 4 the pike/perch/grayling/roach & dace etc. the river was always out side my door & i was often up to my armpits in water and fish most days of the week. thats why i got bored of it and returned to the beach __________________ beer so many venues, so little time. |

| Re: Waisted time This post is not about you, it is those who can go, say on a sat or sunday. The reason i started this post is because i was reading other posts and anglers were tearing there hair out saying fishing is not great on the shore, so that is what this post is about filling in the gap, i think we have crossed wires. As pingu says this is a family forum and i have more important things i could be doing with my time, but i love fishing, i work hard to you know. Chow, Paul |

| Re: Waisted time Well done on the fly fishing Stud, my granddad (god rest his soul) was a master at it. The flies he tied where just amazing, boxes and boxes of them, all so detailed and brilliantly crafted. It has to be the most skilled angling. stalking on banks and in water, casting is an art on its own, and playing a fish with the lightest gear, feeling every inch of the fishes power. Just a shame he never got to take me with him! |

| Re: Waisted time That came from the heart mate, see can you get lessons its not that hard, and learning to cast is a great start, as i am learning the pendulum cast, so i know what its like learning something new it can seem an up hill battle at times but what you get out of it is very rewarding and catching on the fly rod is the best feeling you could imagine. See if there is an instructor close by to teach you casting and take it from there. Or even better kill 2 birds with 1 stone try and get an instructor who runs a rainbow lake. Your still a very young man. Word to the wise fancy casting doesnt always catch you fish, all you need is to cast into the water. I can after youve had a few lessons give you tips line, leader, choice of fly etc. And thats the secret to catching fish. Also reading the water. Sorry to hear your grandad passed away, make him proud and get some casting lessons. Tight lines. Paul |

, but just plain old paul will do. Guys if you can go out of your way and catch a rainbow on a fly rod, and a 2lb trout will give you a better fight than a 5lb salmon, i know cause ive done both. A guy said to me years ago you dont need backing on your reel, well ive seen it a few times when playing a 12lb rainbow, my biggest 18lb 6oz. Try it, and i will know when you have caught your 1st one, the rush to your heart/rate is unreal. ![]() |
