| Re: Right times to go shore fishing i think that for novices , studs catch times are spot on and can be used as a general rule of thumb , obviously different areas may vary slightly from each other. my own personal way to know what is actually being caught is to check on local club matches , opens, and talk to local shop owners. i definately agree with the jan - march timings, here in seaford it is pants, i have 5 matches to fish starting from sat 30th through till middle of march. will be scratching around for slugs and the possibility of a sizeable whiting. oh deep joy. |

| Re: Right times to go shore fishing This is something I made up relating to boat fishing in the Solent, but it's widely applicable to local shores(Sussex, Hants, Dorset) and wider afield in general. Note we do not get a Spring run of codling like those on the East coast in April/May). ![]() ![]() |

| Re: Right times to go shore fishing Excellent post Gremlin, I'm living in Bridport and you are spot on. Of course there is the time that you pick up an odd ball here and there e.g. mackerel, i've had them in February and in 2008 we had cod throughout the summer whilst last year they were few and far between. | Re: Right times to go shore fishing I got shot down over that chart for not including dabs! Twenty years ago, our boat flatty comp was won by a chap called Chris Ladell who weighed in 18lbs of dabs. I came third or fourth with 8lbs of dabs. In the ensuing years, I caught another half dozen to date! They are showing again in the Solent (after a long absence), but expect only the odd one or two. Although they are caught all year, I catch my one or two when codling fishing in the winter months; so, sorry for that omission. Here's one I prepared earlier - ![]() ![]() |

| Re: Right times to go shore fishing How dare you assume of an angler's skill or experience...what makes you so good to judge? I'm sorry to be so abrupt, but you actually accuse a well known sea angling magazine of being filled with cr@p! When in fact I would actually advise any newcomers, whether experienced or not, to actually READ the mags... Wind your neck in, and if you can't take a little critisism - you shouldn't dish it out! |
