Re: Hook Sizes

Deffo got there applications mate, if you're pleasure fishing for specific species ( not for the table ) then why not ?
90% of whiting dying must mean they are taking one look at his fizzer and carcking it lol :)

any fish that hasnt been deeply hooked and has a swim bladder intact should go back in the sea with a little tlc and live to swim another day.. Pollack caught from any depth will re gurgitate their swim bladders ( almost like getting the bends ) and can't be returned.

Using barbless hooks with that in mind would surely mean a similiar mortality rate so a better idea would be to try circle hooks which have a much higher percentage chance of lip hooking fish .

I know my missus caught a 4lb plus Ballan Wrasse from the rocks in Cornwall and attempting to throw it back alive managed to wedge it upside down between 2 rocks about 3 foot from the water !

Its not always the hook mate lmao

Re: Hook Sizes

stud... i asked for your advice then you got all shirty for some reason. I am not doubting your sea fishing exploits at all . Mental made a funny joke so i laughed whats wrong with that? There was no need for you to get aggresive in your post . I was only asking a question as a new sea fihing angler. I hope me and you aint gonna fall out over me having a sense of humour

Re: Hook Sizes

not titting for tatting stud. If you read my post you would have realised i was a bit upset that i was putting back whiting only for them to die. Being a coarse angler all my life i assumed that fish you returned to the sea had as good a chance of surving as a freshwater fish. And i never take the micky out of anyone tounge in cheek. If i do take the mickey it is totally obvious like " I thought i saw your name on a loaf of bread today-- then i realised it said thick cut"

Re: Hook Sizes

I have some large size 2 wide gape carp hooks that are rounded mental. I might try them next time i go they have a micro barb that should have enough of a barb to hold lug on hook what do you reckon?
