I've thought about casting lessons, have only been backcasting for 3-4 months, and have doubled my range from just watching my friend (who has had casting lessons). I'll give it some thought tho, would love to beat my mate who's hit 205yds (measured).

How far do you want to cast ?
!70 yds is a good cast with lead/and bait on

I only use abu 5000,s for casting with , adapted a bit but only a small reel.

Have you thought about lowering the dia of your line

Re: Multiplier wanted

Thanks for the advice, but it can make the difference at times. I still fish at 40yds sometimes, but I like to have the tools to bang my bait out far too. Like for example, last session I fished, all the gulls were about 400yds out, and know-one on the beach had caught anything at all, (thinking that the gulls were feeding on sprats, and sprats attract bigger fish) I kept pushing my casting everycast! the gulls started to come closer 300yds and I had a lovely 6lb cod. Although I never got near 300yds it was enough to attract a fish. Everyone else caught nothing, thats why I want to be able to cast 200+yds not that I will always need too!

Re: Multiplier wanted

Bigfin, im on your side now. Some day go to a casting court and see what 200yrds is mate, its alot further than you think. I went out with the local casting club 1st time a few weeks back and i thought the 200yrd mark flag was the 300yrd mark. I thought when i went casting on the beach and after my cast i walked 200yrds, well i was way out as my pb on the court was 161yrds thats measured with range finder with a 150g lead. One chap got a pb with 125g at 261yrds. There is a chap in club who was in irish shore team 9 times and his cast on the field with a 2 hook trace on the field was 180yrds on court. His 150g pb is 243yrds on court. 200yrds is a very very long way. Most fish at distance are around the 120-150yrd mark, and 30yrds out. Hope this helps mate.

Chap i was talking about bigfin uses a leeda piranah fixspool, loaded with 0.35 dia line 70-80lb shockleader. As i said 200yrds is a very very long way. Alot of anglers like myself in the past thought 200yrds was as far as the road workers put there signes. Go for reel mentioned or a long combed reel and did you know that line lay yes even on a fixspool is very important to distance. Good luck with your casting.

Re: Multiplier wanted

Hi all,

Down to the local recreation ground when it's quiet. The football pitch is normally about 100yds long, and 40 - 50yds wide, this gives you a good idea of your casting distance, and you don't have to measure it out everytime you have a session.

Regards

Drew

Re: Multiplier wanted

Good thinking drew, only prob is it would be only good for 100yrd cast, and if pitch is properly measured at 100rds. Casting court is measured up to 250yrd mark and is measured up to that point and past it with a range finder. Friend of mine who i fish with on the club boat sent me a lovely picture drew of himself and other members in our club boat in their blazers fishing the world boat championships, i am very proud to be fishing along side them. I asked this morning in the summer to take some photos of us and some catches not all as anything up to a over 100-150 fish is not uncommen in our club. I cant wait. Asked the wife for a lend of her dig camara no probs. Fish on.

Re: Multiplier wanted

Just make sure you don't kill anyone, I've used farmers fields before, they won't have any other people on them so are a safer option, just don't piss the farmer off!

Some great advice on here tho guys, thanks. Distance is just another weapon in your fishing armory.

Im using 15lb line with 50-60lb shockleader with penn fixed spool reels and 5-6oz weights, 14ft century rods (these are about 8-10yrs old) doing the backcast!

Re: Multiplier wanted

try buying one of those roller measuring devices, schools often use them. You run them along the ground and it measures the distance covered!
