Chaps, Firstly apologies for not being on line for some time - I know have a baby daughetr 5 weeks old to go with my son so its been a busy christmas - happy new year to you all and best of luck for everyones target in 2010. What I would like is some advice on a good conger rod for congering this season - I was thinking of a 30 - 50lb class Uglystick - I have a 20lb class rod for wrecking and think they are great but anyones advise would be most welcome. | Re: Im back and ready for help ! Hi Tommy, Congratulations & Best Wishes to you and yours. Don't waste your money on a rod that you will only use once in a while, a 30 - 50 rod is not required for Congering. I brought a 50K+ Conger in with a 20 - 30 Daiwa and Abu 7000, I also witnessed a young lad bring in a 30 pounder on a Shimano 20lb travel rod using an Abu 6500. Put your money towards a top reel, Accurate Boss or a Penn International. Regards Drew __________________ All that Glitters is not Gold Secretary of The Blandford Sea Angling Club |

| Re: Im back and ready for help ! Hi Drew, I use a Suveran 12/20 for the eels matched with a 325 penn and don't have a problem with fish over 50lbs, Tommy wants a big one and if he gets a 90lb eel on a light set up he may just lose it. ![]() __________________ Poor prep= Pathetic Performance |

| Re: Im back and ready for help ! Hi John, Not wanting to start a war but how often do we - us - you go hunting for congers? not a lot unless you are mad. We, I think I speak for most Charter Anglers prefer to fish for the pot rather than fun fish for Congers, Tope, Rays, Smoothies etc. I realise there are exceptions i.e. after an excellent morning when fishing for our target fish when an afternoon can be spent having fun, fishing for whatever. Just like the other month when I had the second fish of a lifetime, even although it was only a 2lb 8.5oz Red Gurnard, just a few ozs off the British record. On the other hand if some one wants to purchase a 30 - 50lb broomstick handle, no matter who the maker is, why should I stop him. I am only trying to advise him from past experience, that a 30 - 50 lb rod is a waste of money. I would like to hear from other boat fishers what their thoughts are. As always I respect the thoughts of others. Regards Drew __________________ All that Glitters is not Gold Secretary of The Blandford Sea Angling Club |
