angling trust hi all i mainly coarse fish but this time of the year turn to a bit of beach fishing. my question is to all regular sea anglers is, what is the view on the angling trust among sea anglers? do you have to join to fish matches? did you have a governing body before the a/t? there seems to be quite a few anti's amoung coarse fishermen,i am just looking for the views of the sea angling side of fishing.

Re: angling trust Welcome mate to the forum. I know were i live i have to pay my club fee every year, im in 7 clubs, nuts about any fish that swims, but out of fee 90% goes to the irish fed for insurance, something like that, bit like insureing your car. When your fishing shore matches accidents do happen ie a lead goes astray and hits or even kills someone thats why you have to join club or pay a fiver or something if your not in a club to fish opens or matches, but for pleasure fishing not needed. Hope this helps. Chow

Re: angling trust I am not 100% sure how the angling trust works but it's preedecsor the NFSA (national fed of sea angers(national to England)) used to have a personal members section which you would be covered for insursnce for pleasure fishing, always a good idea to join maybe just for that insurance.

Re: angling trust I thought the Angling Trust was an amalgamation of various bodies, with the idea of promoting angling of all disaplines. Was the former A.C.A part of it?

Re: angling trust Hi KKK You don't have to be a member of the Anglers Trust to fish sea angling matches. Although I would advise joining a sea angling club or association (even if its just for local crack, information and insurance). The old NFSA is now the Marine Division of the Anglers Trust. To be honest, its about time we had a national organisation to look after the welfare of all anglers, particularly if that gave us some sort of voice & political clout. Personally, I'm not entirely convinced. If joining the Anglers Trust will guarantee that we can fish and collect bait from our traditional areas (which is suspect at the moment with the incomming Marine Bill and its Marine Conservation Zones) then fair do's I'll join. But at the moment its wait and see. (Sorry about the political tirrade).

Other matches are generally CLUB events open to members only; although 'guests' are allowed by some clubs. These tend to be more informal and often include 'rovers' where folks set off from a set point and time and must report back with their catches or scorecards at a set finish time. Wessex NFSA division used to hold events for Wessex area NFSA members only. These are now run by Wessex Angling Trust division. You can get info by contacting Richard Prosser (Wessex Div/AT) on 01264 889335. Regards and season's greetings Ada |
