Re: tackle box basics for beginners

i got thos ron thomson gloves! cheap as chips and last forever had mine about 3 years! ther blinders!
p,s glad to see you have gone for a nice sensible head light! down my way ther seems to be a trend in "my head lamps brighter than yours" were talking huge batterys carried on belts to fire up ther 10,000 candle power spot lights!
personel hate of mine, so i rig up, lazy cast out for a bass 30yrds out, switch off settle down to watch the tips, then some mug trudges up the shingle and askes you if you had anything will your sheilding your burning retinas! kindly ask em to kill the light and kiss goodby to your night vision and say hello to purple blobs and silouette,s for the next 30 mins!

anyway good job that man and good tip for beginers!

Re: tackle box basics for beginners

Hi, just joined 10 minutes ago as I'm looking to get into sea fishing, been course/carp fishing for a few years but I really want to have a go at beach/sea fishing.
If I try it and find it's not for me, at least I tried it, which brings me nicely to my point.......
Can I use my carp rods and reels to see if I like it rather than shell out for dedicated beachcaster stuff straight away, and could someone post and idiots guilde to weights etc please as i keep looking at them in my local tackle shop, but am still none the wiser.
BTW, I'm thinking Dungerness or littlestone as possible venues, and really want to catch Bass and Cod.

thanks everyone....Gary.

Re: tackle box basics for beginners

hi Gary , pit sized reels are fine but not the rods as you need to cast weights around 5 or 6 ounce ..
18lb mono , size 2/0 hooks ..

Re: tackle box basics for beginners

Thanks lads, I might just go down to that tackle shop opposite Greatstone beach car park (by Dungerness) and get rigged out, I should imagine I could get a basic two rod kit for probably £200 - £300 and if i hate it, i'll flog it.

Any tips on rod lengths for beach casting (I'm only 5'9" but fairly stocky) and weigh about 15.2.

thanks again lads.

Gary.
