cheers for the reply's and warm welcome, very refreshing after the secret squirrel world of carping. incidently i was not a pole angler (thirties and forties on a pole, that would be fun)

some interesting reading, any more rod thoughts, i hvae kept a couple of carp rods for flatties, bass ect but fishing the back off the wight i need some rods capable of casting 6oz and the bait

well im not very up on beach casting gear so count me out of helping but welcome amigo and if ever i come to the i.o.w for a holiday i know who to contact (i love the i.o.w)
last time i went we stayed at white cliff bay holiday park i caught my first ever turbot there.....(it was only half a pound or so)
but i was well chuffed

Another option you could look at is the Ron Thompson rods and Okhuma reels a lot of places are doing these as buy the rod get the real free.
Buy the total sea fishing magazine or sea angler magazine and look at the deals in one of these. They also have rod reviews in these :)

i read about the daiwa longbream and megaforce in the sea angler they sound quite good i would go for that, when i 1st started sea fishing (not long ago)i was just using a carp rod of a pier in the summer and it was great fun ! now im hooked on sea fishing
