Re: Massive Cod

We've been talking recently re quality of hooks, line etc.
Just shows you that there are the fish around. If he'd been using inferior quality hooks etc he would never have landed them.
I'm going to overhaul my tackle box. I'd never forgive myself if I lost one of those for the sake of a few pennies extra spent on end tackle!

Re: Massive Cod

you can land fish on alot less than you all may think people just seem to have this urge to pull like hell and wind like hell and winch it in.

look at what the carp fisherman do...
2lb test carp rod 8-10lb line and they land 40-50lb carp!!

granted rough ground areas such as the bristol channel you need the heavy stuff but i drop right back to bare basics when on a clean beach

Re: Massive Cod

I agree, providing you don't have to lift the fish out of the water say up the side of a pier or something you don't need anything that heavy really. Just set your clutch, play the fish until it's knackered and let the water support the weight of it. Saying that, I always seem to just reel in on the rare occassions I catch anything.

Re: Massive Cod
