Fishing over the winter?

Being someone who generally has always packed up the fishing gear for over the winter, what can I really be doing over this cold period?

Now my studies are over I'll have a clear winter and although the next month is occupied with rebuilding my car, I'm going to want to do a spot of fishing after that. Are cod really only reachable by wrecking trips? I guess the mackerel have all sodded off now?

Re: Fishing over the winter?

Im really not sure on your area , but here the bigger bass feed hard , flounder make an appearance , cod on a most of the pompey and sussex beaches , and sole and whiting are a good bet , really is a good time of the year to unpack your gear

Last year in your neck of the woods...
Exmouth III

Plenty of whiting around - fish as light as you can/the tide will let you - they aren't a lot of fun on a beachcaster, good bites on a carp rod.

Enjoy
Paul.

Re: Fishing over the winter?

Well, to be honest, on a sunday or something I am happy to do fishing whilst my car is being rebuilt as I can't do anything to it on a sunday. That's nearly always a free day for me regardless of other things.

Re: Fishing over the winter?

Hi Jason,

If you ever fancy a charter outing and want some company I can always find a couple of lads for a trip. The Pollock season is just about to start again i.e. the double figure big ones coming in from the west.

I'm sure Tommy A and his dad will be up for a trip as long as it is midweek, on the other hand if you prefer a weekend give me a shout and we can see what is available.

Regards

Drew

Re: Fishing over the winter?

Well, open to any suggestions and days at the moment. Have about 7 days to take off from work before 31/03/10 so a midweek day is fine as long as I am not committed to an audit already.
