| Re: Live bait...ie.pout/pollock etc.. Do you mean from the shore? if from the boat it is simple just hook through both lips to keep its mouth shut (stops it 'drowning')and drop it over the side. A way off the shore is to tie a size 2 or 4 to the bend of a 6/0 or 8/0 and bait with a small bit of worm wait for a fish to take the bait and maybe a bigger fish will take that, if like me you could sit there for hours with a 2lb flounder hooked. (Hook sizes may vary from the shore) |

| Re: Live bait...ie.pout/pollock etc.. I hook my live bait straight through the nose and cast no further than 20yds as you should not need to for bass. As for hook size i varry it for the size of my live bait as recently the pout have been small and a 5/0 sekuma is to heavy for them and the crabs have had a free meal so i have been using a 2/0 on small pout and 5/0 on bigger pout/pollackPollack are alot more tougher aswell |

| Re: Live bait...ie.pout/pollock etc.. Hi Pompeymatt, I have just joined the forum and noticed your question, further to what has been suggested here is a good way to hook up livebait without them dying- providing you don't have to cast very far. Get a slim piece of wire 6ins long and make a very small loop at one end, push it through the livebaits nose and then hook onto the loop a small rubber band, pull the wire through the nose until u have 2 small loops of band either side of the nose, then hook these small loops over two prongs of a suitable size treble, your bait is now attached but will last much longer. This is the way we hook our joey mackeral for bass on the Manacles in Cornwall.
