| Casting for beginners Right i have never wrote a thread giving advice but thought i would try and help some people out ![]() If you are new to fishing and are struggling to cast any distance give this a try and see how you get on ![]() Casting smoothly is a must for getting any real distance, not blowing your reel up and keeping the bait on the hook. The trick to casting smothly is not to thrash at the rod, instead compress the rod and then deliver the final "punch" all in one fluid motion. You can only cast any real distance if you can perfect this (it takes a lot of patience & practice). I shall now try and tell you the way i am currently learning myself 1- Imagine a clock face and stand at 6 o'clock 2- Place your rod tip at 12 o'clock and your weight at 3 or 4 o'clock 3- Stand your feet at a comfortable stance (roughly shoulder width apart) with your feet pointing slightly toward the sea ( you should be slightly twisted) 4- Hold your arms out away from the body and at shoulder height or slightly higher if comfortable 5- Look up into the sky at about 45 degrees and pick a spot Your rod is now in a position to be loaded during the cast 6- As you start your cast you should push both arms round and up towards the spot in the sky ( your weight will now transfer from your right leg to your left leg) 7- Once you have pushed up towards your point in the sky you must try and pull your left hand round and down towards your left armpit. 8- Whilst pulling in with your left arm you should push hard with your right arm and release the reel. This action will add the power to your cast 9- Keep your rod tip up high untill the weight hits the water and wait for the big fish to get on your hook ![]() Like I said to cast well there is a simple equation which is COMPRESSION + POWER = ![]() ![]() LOOK AT IT GO!!!!Casting is all about technique, not brute strength. I can hit around 150 yards and i only just got taught this. At my casting club there is a 12 yr old lad who is 4ft nothing who can cast even further than that so it just proves the point.Hope this is of help to anyone and if anyone wishes to add then please feel free Tight Lines ![]() Joe __________________ Sea 2012- 5brd rockling, whiting, LS Dogfish,Bass,Eel,Flounder F/W 2012- Catfish(16.5lb), Carp,Tench LITTER IS JUST LAZINESS!! |

| Re: Casting for beginners Hi joe, just had a look at your thread, you may have answered my casting problem. quote : 5- Look up into the sky at about 45 degrees and pick a spot think the trajectory may be the answer, whilst coarse fishing, you always look to where you want to put your float/feeder when you cast. so am gonna try the angle you suggest, cheers __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity. |

Not a problem mate, glad it could help. I would say anywhere between 30-45 degrees is a good angle to aim at. On windy days I would defo go for the 30 degree angle to reduce wind drag.
