Re: Shimano charter special tr 1000ld

Hi,

When the ABU 7000 range went downhill a few years ago, the Shimano Charter Specials took over from them.

I personally don't have one but quite a few people I fish with use them and seem quite happy. They are a good middle of the range boat reel that filled a void in the market.

Regards

Drew

By the way, I'm guessing you have a boat. What kind is it? We have a seahog hunter 15.

Re: Shimano charter special tr 1000ld

Hi Mack,

No I don't have a boat, not a thing that is on my wish list.

I prefer to pay a Charter Skipper his £50 or so and have him worry about the upkeep of a boat.

Regards

Drew

Hi Mack,

I have been thinking, (I do a lot of that sometimes) have a look at the other Shimano reels. If you are prepared to spend a few pounds more, you are going into a different ball game and are going to get a vastly superor reel for your money. The Torium for example is one that I can think off.

Regards

Drew

Re: Shimano charter special tr 1000ld

M.M.M.
Got the charter special and matched it with a Shakespear President braid boat, it's brilliant, I never want to put it down. Did a four day charter tripto Guernsey to try it for the first time and caught Bream, Brill, Turbot, Gurnard,Smoothhound and a shed load of Cod on the way home. It performed brilliantly in all cases. Lever drag a joy to use and the high retrieve ratio gets fish away from the wrecks or reefs in a hurry, fewer tackle losses. Good luck if you buy the reel although Daiwa Saltist with the level wind looks a touch sexy. Shambles
