best beach light

Need a new head torch or tilley lamp. Does a tilley lamps light scare bass off on a beach, heard that the bright light can reduce your catches, anyone know if this is true ?? Any tips on a cheapish headtorch appreciated. cheers

Re: best beach light

hi Steve
Personally I prefer the head torch option. Half the enjoyment, for me, of being on a beach in the dark, is actually being in the dark and looking at the stars & tip lights.
The missus uses an energiser 6 LED Headlight from argos for under a tenner. I prefer to use a Pimus lite 5 led I got from a tackle shop £30-40
this appears to be the updated version http://walkhigh.co.uk/acatalog/info_2497.html
I find it more usefull as it has an on/off button that always goes to the red leds - this way I keep my night vision when baiting up (can toggle to different brightness of white light & flashing by using the other button) which I do all of.
The energiser only has 1 button that toggles from off - 2 leds - 4 leds - 2 reds - off.
Couldn't comment on Bass not liking bright lights on the beach as never used one.
Hope this helps.

Re: best beach light

Im still using my petzl head torch that i have had for over a dozen years now and I didn't get it new i found it! Only on my 3rd bulb too so I would say go for one of theirs, like everything you do get what you pay for.
As for the lantern, Ive only juts started using one and if im out at night it always comes along, the warm feeling inside when its glowing away is amazing, again you will get what you pay for, but make sure you can get spares for the one you choose ie new glass dome, pump handle etc
Hope that gets you pointed in the right direction

Danny

Re: best beach light

I got my head torch from tescos and it works fine but i tend to use tip lights instead as one of my pet hates during a night fish is insects and moths flying into my face and mouth
I do have a rechargable camping lantern (also from tesco) that is quite handy for baiting up but does bugger up night vision for a few mins after.
