I was using a pulley rig Ben. The mark is really rough for about 30 yds but then you are into a deep channel of water. Some parts are as deep as 75' Fish either the 3rd lampost or the 5th lampost from the carpark as these are less snaggy. I have never fished the 3rd, but Plankton Boy reckons it's a decent mark. The 5th lampost gives you a huge area behind the wall to swing your leads. Definitely use some form of rotten bottom. I use the Genie Breakers for my weak links. If you are worried about losing leads, try some old nuts & bolts bound together with some wire, or old spark plugs can work too if you bind them around the electrode with thin wire. Never used it myself, but saw a guy doing the exact same thing once.

Go here: http://gemini-tackle.co.uk/frame.htm and click on Genie Clip Assemblies and scroll to the bottom of the page. As you rightly say, the thin line would snap under casting but with this system you don't put any strain on the line. I use 12lb mono as my weak line.

OK, tie a Genie Rig clip on to the end of your shock leader. Tie a 12" length of 12lb line to your weight and then tie the other end of this to the rig clip. Now attach the Genie Breaker to the rig clip also. Unhook the Breaker link arm and push this through the weight loop and then hook the Breaker back together. The weight is now supported on the Breaker which is attached to the rig clip which is attached to the shock leader. When the rig hits the water the breaker open and the weight slides off the link arm and is now hanging free from the rig clip. If you snag and can't release the 12lb line snaps and all you lose is the lead. If you have a fish on, that is safe too.
