As the gar season aint that long away i was just wondering if any of you could help me? All i would like to know is how to make a rig that i can fish for gars of the beach with at a distance of about 100yrds! i have seen people use botles and i have also seen them use rigs that climb up the line using a float to bring the hooks up nearer the surface!(do you understand that?) I have looked everywhere on the net but i cant find anything that looks like that but it must be possible :? Ollie.

ye use the flyer a lot in the summer i dont use a float on it though just a clip swivel hook and either a shot or two or a little ball weight bait with mackeral or sandeel (great with live) theres a bit in the total sea fishing quite recently about how to make up the bottle to use as a float __________________ New site! sea fishing devon

If you can, go to Chesil and watch the locals use their groundbait. They just spoon it behind the first wave, it then makes a slick which moves out, the gars pick up on it, and wey hey, a gar every chuck. Mind you, the ground bait is hummin!!! usually chopped up mackerel guts n'all, and loads of other oily fish goodies, smelly but effective.. as always, tight lines...
