Re: Sea Fishing Now In Angling Times...

Not a bad idea, might reduce the crap they put in there lately...too much advertising, I know they need the adverts which pays them but it can be a bit over baring at times.

However, it might cause problems with the coarse anglers, as AT has always been a coarse fishing magazine and they would like to keep coarse and sea fishing seprate.

I do both type of fishing, more coarse than sea but it would be nice to have a magazine which covers both, instead of needing to buy 2 magazines all the time.

Re: Sea Fishing Now In Angling Times...

Haven't read it Paul... Personally, I've never bought the AT. When I buy something fishing related to read, I want it to be about the kind of fishing I do. I.E. Shore fishing.

It's bad enough to have that watered down with the boat sections in SA and TSF. I realise that the mags are about sea fishing not just shore fishing, but that's not a discipline I do, so it's not what I want to see. If there was a mag available that was dedicated to shore fishing and didn’t include the car reviews and boat stuff, I’d buy that, therefore I wouldn't buy the AT because the majority of it isn't relevant to the kind of fishing I do.

BTW, nice trip over to Ireland mate. Two 3lb fish in the first two casts is as you say, is dream fishing time..... Nice one.

Re: Sea Fishing Now In Angling Times...

Thanks Rich...I'm back over to Ireland in a month...and can't wait...you'll be able to read about how I do in future issues of the mag...

All the best mate and good to hear from you....

as a footnote - I'm doing the sea content in AT - if it makes any difference to you mate...but I reckon the more sea stuff we get out there...the better...

Re: Sea Fishing Now In Angling Times...

when i were a kid dad used to get angling times & mail for the sea angling reports and prospects ,why the hell we got both i'll never know coz it was pretty much the same info in each of them.
as the years dragged by the sea angling content of the mail & times dwindled untill it was almost non existant i found the pages were just rammed with articles and adverts for freshwater angling, which at the time held little interest for me, in the latter years we only remained subscribed out of habit & for the tide tables .

with the release of seaangler, though i ignored it for a while,
i'd found what i was looking for - a mag dedicated to my chosen form of the sport .

however, as a general veiw , i feel that the re inclusion of a sea angling section within angling times, though it could never compeate with a mag more dedicated to sea angling, is a good thing .
if only because these days i see the 3 main forms of angling ,ie,-sea, coarse and game being devided instead of united in common cause for our sport.

cross genre articles in any dedicated publication have got to be a good thing to keep anglers aware of other forms of the sport and perhaps encourage participation.

Re: Sea Fishing Now In Angling Times...

hi paul, good to see you again, congratulations on getting the angling times job mate,it's your baby is it ?

personally i am pleased to see sea angling back in the AT, lets face it,it is called the angling times, not the coarse angling times,it should cater for all different branches of the sport - fly fishing as well !

i am a regular mail reader but with you at the helm of the sea page i will get the times in future mate

Thumbs up Re: Sea Fishing Now In Angling Times...

I think it's good to have an all round fishing paper on the market. Like Geejay, I can remember when Angling times used to be an all round paper & it's nice to see it going back to that format. Weekly reports are always going to be better than monthly ones to find out where the fish are being caught. Mind you, I can get up-todate daily reports on here. Are you still going to be doing features in Sea Angler though Paul?
