| Re: Help!! The bass are here and i want em There's a surprise ! not heard of Bass down here yet ! You are right in thinking Bass are similar to Sea Trout as far as lure fishing goes but Bass will take a much wider range of baits. I used mackerel "flappers" when fishing East Coast England and had some good results but that was with a strong tide flow - not sure what the tides are like up there but we get about 1.5 metre on a spring tide down here ! I would imagine a small coalie or pout fished live (or gently killed) would work. You could try trolling with a deep running Rapala. Please let me know how you get on as they must be around Rogaland if they are as far up as Mold. | Re: Help!! The bass are here and i want em bass also love mackeral, whole fillets work best for the big bass, use a pennel rig with a running ledger rig, on the pennel use a 1/0 on the bottom and a 2/0 on top i like using saksuma hooks as they are so strong and sharp here is the rig, sorry about poor quality i drew it up on paint ![]() thats how icaught this beut, 14lb ![]() |

| Re: Help!! The bass are here and i want em Hi, I suggest that you look at it from first principles, always remembering that the bass is first and foremost a predator, who's instict is to chase, kill, and eat. 1) ask myself: what would be the natural food for the bass in Norway? (I suggest it may be immature herrings) 2) then: where are the most likely places for the bass to feed on that natural food? (e.g. if it is immature herrings, you need to find out where they congregate, which will be where the herrings actually go to feed, where they go to breed, where they go to shelter from stormy seas and so on). Also the depth that the food fish prefer is critical here. There is no point in trolling deep when the foodfish are in shallow bays being hammered by the bass, and likewise there is no point in plugging the surf in shallow bays when the baitfish congregate in deep dips and troughs of the sea bed. This all needs to be looked into by you, by reading up, talking to commercial fishermen, talking to people who dive etc, and by finding the forums for these activities and reading what they say about fish activity. It could be that a feeding area is very easy to get to (e.g. under a certain jetty on certain tides) or, there could be only one area in the whole fjord that is worth fishing) 3) then: what would be the best times to fish? (e.g. which months, daytime or darkness, stage of the tide and so on. Again it all depends on the natural food) 4) then: how do I get to these locations? (If the baitfish congregate far out, then don't waste time shore fishing. Get out on a boat somehow. One day a month on a boat to a lucrative bass feeding spot is worth much more than a load of 'try it and see' sessions on the shore) 4) then: what tackle and method would be best? (I suggest that in summertime your priorities are: 1)livebaits of the food fish, then 2)plugs that simulate the live food fish, then 3)deadbaits of the food fish, then 4)other baits or lures that might work (including spinners). Sorry if this all sounds rather basic, but when I turn up on holiday with a fishing rod, I try to think along these lines. I hope this helps. |
