Re: Car parking Charges List

the (currently) free list. (as far as i know.)

um, where do i start?

chesil, portland, between the fish shop & the little ship inn (portland side of masonic carpark , 72 hours free)

calshot, when you hit the beach huts, turn right there is some free parking on the roadside on the hill i think?

magazine lane, aka-snaggy alley. if you drive down the road and on down the track beside the ditch, at the bottom there's a gravel carpark through the wall on your left .
its smaller than it used to be but would hold approx 20 cars.
best o luck backing all the way back to the road when there's no space left to turn.

hurst shingle bank, the white bridge ,
there are free parkng spaces along the lower section of the road,
the higher section beside the channel that runs to stert pond has been widened by people continually parking there but i'm told parking tickets get issued occasionally there esp' when cars are parked blocking the road.

lee on solent, monks hill carpark, eastern end of prom,
free 24/7 .

.................................................. ..................................................

lots of car parks are free of charge over night, just check the tarrif boards thoroughly, especially the times.--

stokesbay rnli/boat yard slipway c/p. free 7pm-10am, times an approxamation
check the board.

.................................................. ..................................................

also a lot of roads offer free parking 'out of hours' where otherwise restrictions apply --

avon beach along the 'firtrees' 7pm -8am approx.

southbourne, in marked areas, 7pm-8am again approx.

lee on solent , along the prom, not sure of times.

we could add more as we find/ think of them but there's a little paranoid thought of mine that recons that when we've published the ones we find useful the local councils will go buy more bloody ticket machines

Re: Car parking Charges List

If you want to fish southsea, park on the streets around the pier not on the seafront .

Re: Car parking Charges List

Burnham on Sea. There is no charge to park along the sea front during the winter months even though the meter states that there is!
The charges were scrapped a couple of years ago during the winter BUT the tarrif information was not updated.

Re: Car parking Charges List

Plymouth Area:

Mountbatten Breakwater: Free all day and night. 2 mins away from breakwater.
Devil's Point: Free all day and night. 2 mins walk.
Tamar Bridge: On Plymouth side at the end of Wolseley Road is free parking.
Plym Estuary: Halfway along Embankment Road there is a car park on the left which is free all day and night. This is about 100yds from the river bank.

East Cornwall:

Seaton: Free and you park at the top of beach.
Sharrow Point: £1 for 4 hours, free after 6pm
Whitsand Bay: Free if you park in layby, (allowed) but its about 20mins walk to beach.
Freathy: No recognised parking but there a couple of laybys where you can park for free.
Lantic Bay: Free all day and night, thankyou National Trust, but its a 40 min walk to beach through a cow field, down a cliff and through a forest. Lovely place nightmare to get to and worse coming back up.
Looe: Car park by the amusements is 50p overnight! from 8pm to 6am about 15 min walk

Devon
Torquay: Berry's Head, expensive (£4 for 2 hours) and a good hike to fishing area. Blue Badge holders can apply to local council for a pass which enables you to get a barrier pass so you can drive right down to the waters edge and park for free!

Hopes Nose: Don't pay Foggy! (Sorry Foggy) park in Thatchers Avenue and 20 min walk down to the Nose, Sandy Point and High Point.

Thats the ones I know at the momentbut will post more when I can.

Re: Car parking Charges List

Teignmouth. Lighthouse car park (Turn right at the seafront) £1.20/hr during the day. Free after 6pm. Gives access to beach and back beach.

Brixham Quarry car park with footpath to the quay £7 for 24 hours. Alternatively, from the main road, turn left signposted Northfields lane industrial estate, drive all the way along this road and then turn left. Follow the one way system along the top of the cliffs then park for free on Higher Furzham Road and walk down the hill. To get back up the hill do what the locals do and get a taxi near the town centre bus stop. Get out at the top of the hill before the meter clicks over.
