| All my bits - 2 rods, 2 reels pre-loaded with line, tripod and assorted rigs magically turned up a week earlier than expected. And beuatifull they are, shiney and stored in the kichen. There is a reason for this (several, but the point of this post is the main one), and that reason is confusion. I am totally confused by apparent expert advice being contradictory. Or maybe I'm being a thickitt. My confusion stems from attatching a rig to the shock leader. How. In what order, top to bottom? With what and how are these swivels, clips, beads, crimps and links placed in anything other than a birds nest of fat shock leader? And where does the weight go? Can it be that difficult to find this relatively simple information in one place, without getting that overload of confusion and feeling incable of asking for much needed assistance? I hope this has inspired someone to impart some of their experience and knowledge onto a willing pupil. All I know is casting a rig into the north sea at the moment will be a very expensive and futile pursuit. HELP!!! |

| Re: Gear is here,but... Hi Mudman, In answer to your questions; Attach your 60lb shockleader to your mainline using an appropriate knot. http://videofishingknots.com/joining-lines.html. The length of your shockleader should be twice the length of your rod plus ten turns round your reel. Then slide a small bead onto the other end of the shockleader and attach a small swivel using a Grinner knot. Your traces can now be clipped onto the shockleader using a Gemini Clip. Might I suggest that you contact Ian Houlton on 07794 100932 / 05601 546212 or have a look at his website. www.moonfleet-angling.com If you phone you can mention my name. Buy a few of his rigs and then copy them, this will help you get started. Your weight would normally be clipped onto the bottom of your trace, again using a swivel and Gemini Clip. I’m sorry that I cannot post pictures, maybe Pingu or one of the other members will oblige. If you want to have a chat, you can PM me a telephone number (not a mobile) and I will phone you.
