Re: Orford Ness

codling , whiting and perhaps a lucky bass...

Best bait will undoubtedly be live peelers, but if you can't get them, live yellowtails, black lug will be good.

Don't cast too far - and for bass - cast even closer!

Fish with two rods, one out for codling etc and drop a second rod close to the shore with perhaps a whole squid for a bass....

Best of luck and don't forget to let the guy's know how you got on...

For codling and whiting, usually 50-60 yds is ample on Orford Ness...for the bass, well, they can come as close as ten yards - just lob it 10-15 yards and leave it...but loosen the drag on your reel with a ratchet on - I've seen many a rod dragged in by a big bass there....bass are predators - and will hit hard - also, a loosened drag could help hook the bass too - have fun if you hook one...

There should still be codling there - but the spring run will start come April so don't lose out all hope just yet...

Good luck....
