Re: the moon charts?

definately when sea fishing , the moon phase affects the tide 1:e new and old moons = the bigger tides usually when best fishing
I prefer the old dark moon rather than full but thats personal

can affect the freshwater as well as full moons can be like fishing at daytime sometimes

Re: the moon charts?

You need a tide-table with the New/Full moons marked on it.

They occur every two weeks (big high tides/low, low tides).
Usually better for digging because the tides go further out and uncover more ground.

Some marks fish better because there is more water movement.
But this can make 'holding out' more difficult in stronger tidal currents.

As an example, the Admiralty Pier at Dover is almost unfishable on Springs, but is reasonably manageable on Neaps (small tides between New/Full moons).
Other places fish better on rising Springs (big tides) or falling Springs.

That's all down to experience at a particular venue.

Hope that's helpful.

Re: the moon charts?

Yer welcome ...

an angler much better than me showed me how to fish the Admiralty Pier, Dover (fierce Springs on the flood) and it was a hard tablet to swallow ...

I reckoned 6oz grips with widely spaced fixed grip wires.

Not being from the Dover area, I was lucky enough to find out what they meant by a 'Dover Bomb' and I made my own.

The regular uptide fixed grips tended to 'cartwheel', while these boogers held out if cast 30m uptide (when space allowed).

My next lesson was to learn that to catch large bass on the same venue, you used no grips but a 4oz bomb/flowing trace from the end (lighthouse) gate and let it go until it stopped (big eddy jobby) ... when yer bait was in it, the rod tip went straight (about 80m).

Then wait fer all hell to break loose.
