| Filleting Knife Size Hi all, Yet another question from me ![]() I just got a 7" filleting knife for my birthday and was origonally wanting something abit smaller just for mackerel strips, but now I have it I'm wondering, will this knife be good for filleting all the fish i catch and take home as well as striping mackerel, or should I down size to a smaller one for that job, and get a different knife for home filleting. Cheers, Saul. |

| Re: Filleting Knife Size Hi Saul, Personally I have 3 knives, a 7" filletting knife for filletting only, a cheap boning knife from Tesco that I use for cutting bait etc., and my pen knife. I keep all of them razor sharp especially my filleting knife and will not use it for anything else other than filletting. I hope this helps you with your querie. | Re: Filleting Knife Size I would suggest keep your filleting knife just for that and at home. Get a Rapal bait knife for about £6 for bait/getting/deheading at your marks. I also carry a Gerber multitool on my belt with a small knife for emergencies - dogs caught in line!! quick rope cutting on a boat etc. As Drew says keep them all razor sharp. __________________ There is a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot. |
