To kick off....I am absolutely no expert on this subject but will give an opinion.

I recall reading an article regarding commercial boats and where they are and are not permitted to fish. From what I remember of the article a vessel over 12m (39ft in old money) has a 6 Mile fishing restriction imposed upon it….If you take the average size of say a beam trawler 15m – 40m these boys should be more or less out of sight troubling fish miles out.

The livelihood of the small-scale chaps you see around Cornwall for example who catch mackerel, pilchards or line caught bass would be severely impacted by the 1m ban…. I am sure they wouldn’t fancy going our too far in what amounts to a big rowing boat and would ultimately go out of business.

If my understanding of the legislation is correct not a lot has changed and the big boys who decimate stocks are still doing this offshore…
