Fishing and bait collection in North East.. Hi all, just read a couple of threads, people wanting advice on fishing and bait collection in North East...Well here's a bit of local info... Lynemouth Beach in Northumberland is now producing cod in the 3 - 9lb. range, on decent tides and best during a south easterly blow. Fish the last 3hrs of the ebb and first 2 of the flood for best results. Best baits have been yellowtail tipped with ragworm or whiteworm on a pennell pulley. Hendon Prom is just full of whiting in calm conditions, but with a bit of movement you can expect codling to 4lb, along with school bass and coalies. All worms, mussells and frozen crab, razorfish and squid tips, all been successful from here. Rock edges at Ryhope have been a bit slow of late, but places like The Target, The Manholes, Ryhope Dene, and Boathouse, will all pick up if we get a northerly blast. All manner of baits will produce, but frozen crab, mussells, and big juicy yellowtails will score best. Seaham Hall will produce lots of whiting on calm frosty nights, with the flood tide being best. Lugworm tipped with mackerel best. If the sea is moving, expect codling and bass to show, although fish are not big, they can touch 5lb in right conditions. As it's a flat, featureless beach, worms get the nod here. The Blast Beach at Seaham is red hot at the minute, with bags of up to 40 fish being reported, mainly whiting, but codling, bass and dogfish have been showing on odd tides. Black lug and whiteworm usually best here. Horden and Easington Beaches been fishing like the Blast. Further north, Tynemouth, Whitley Bay, Cullercoats have all been throwing up codling on night time low waters. Worm, crab and mussell cocktails worked on BIG single hook rigs usually rotten bottom, lobbed into the holes and gullies during a moderate swell. Howick, Craster, Longhoughton, Newton have all started to produce big fish. It's rough ground, so tackle up heavy, and big baits as bully tactics are required to haul the big cod through this rough terrain. Hard going, and tackle losses can be high, but the rewards are worth it... Bait can be dug at Boulmer, blow lug, but watch for the markers, as there are restrictions as to digging near the boat moorings. Redcar at the South Gare, blow lug, whiteworm, and ragworm. Whitburn, big tides for nice yellowtails, (if you can get through the rock!!) Also tackle shops, there is a great selection of tackle shops who offer a wide range of bait and tackle and give great advice..( I won't mention them as I'm not sure on Richards' advertising rules...But they're in yellow pages!!!) hope this helps a little..

Re: Fishing and bait collection in North East.. Hi Daniel, yeah i've fished up Blyth a lot mate...usually at a place called Cambois, off the rocks into a place called Cambois Back Hole, i've caught some decent fish there, but the best one was a cod of 28lb. !!! I didn't catch it by the way!!!! A guy fishing the Newbiggin Open a few years back, wiped the board with this one fish! I've had a couple of doubles outer that hole, but it does hold big fish..

Re: Fishing and bait collection in North East.. yes i know cambios well i use to fish when i was younger at the jetis near the big orange tanks were the trains go.but the past few times i fished down near the buckaneer pub were the river meets the sea.i tryed fishing behind those orange funnel shaped tanks at cambois were you have to climb down some rocks and there is a wall of wooden railway sleepers wich act as a wave breaker.but i couldnt cast far enough to clear the wood and get a decent distance as i wa young at the time.
