1.ANGLER FISH:

one of the ugliest fish you may come across.with a huge mouth which it opens and sucks its prey in with the rush of water.

2.BASS:

everyone wants them, but they are over fished by the trawlers and gill netters.so how and where can we catch that big o! bass.

3.BLACK BREAM:

mainly found in the warmer waters of the uk from southern ireland to the dover area.but have been caught else where.

4.BLONDE RAY:

the main edentity marks of this fish is the colour of its back,a light brown with small scattered cream coloured marks with lots of dark scattered spots.

5.BRILL:

this fish can be found on virtually any type of sea bed,as its defence is to change its skin tone to adapt to its surroundings.

6.COD:

large mouth predators, the vacuum of the sea,but it tastes great.

7.COMMON SMOOTHOUND:

these are in the shark family, but do not have sharp teeth but have flattened teeth as like a ray.

8.CONGER EEL:

found in rock areas tuck into holes and larger fish can be found over deep channel wrecks.

9.CUKOO RAY:

what makes this easy to recognise are the two black and yellow round marks on the top of either wing.

10.DAB:

one of the smallest flatfish, found in uk waters, and one of the most common species that can also be found on most sandy areas and sandy estuary inlets.good for eating.

11.GREATER/LESSER SPOTTED DOGFISH:

if you are fishing a match and things are going bad,why not target these and you should get a better bag.

six different species found in uk waters, all with huge eyes and tough plates about the head.

14.LEMON SOLE:

THIS IS NOT A SOLE,BUT A RELATIVE OF THE DAB.

a fantastic fish for the table and very noticeable with its brown skin with orange spots.

a fantastic fighter which can be found on wrecks and over rough ground.good sport on light tackle.

19.PORBEAGLE SHARK:

this is probably the only large fighting shark you will find within uk waters, mainly on the atlantic coast.

20.POUTING:

the dustbin of the sea,it eats anything as it would being a member of the cod family.makes good fish cakes.

21.ROCKLING:

normally very small but can take a larger bait intended for the bigger species.

the spines which run down its back and tail are close together and bent over at angles.

ive caught 17 out of that list if you count weaver fish as a catch lol
but one comment i have to make.
the bass are over fished by the pair trawlers and not so much the gill netters.
i worked on a gill netter for 2 years and belive me catching bass in a gill net is not as common as a angler thinks we used to put nets in good bass marks and 1 maybe 2 fish yet fish there with prawn or sandeels and a rod we could catch a dozen!!!
alot of the gill netters near me now go out too the known bass marks to catch bass in the summer time and use rod and line because they catch more and fetch more for them on the fish market because the fish have no net marks and look in better condition
